Abortion Safety Checklist
Abortion is a medical decision and one that should come with proper evaluation. Only you can protect your health. If you are considering having an abortion, there are several steps you should take and questions to answers. Below is a checklist we have put together for your consideration.
1. Confirm Your Pregnancy
Proof of pregnancy is the first step to knowing you are actually pregnant. Our professional pregnancy verification includes a medical-grade urine lab test and an ultrasound. An ultrasound will provide you with information like is your pregnancy viable and how far along you are, which is the most important information you need to know in deciding what abortion options available to you in Austin. The best way to ensure that you have a viable pregnancy is verification from an ultrasound.
2. Get Tested for STDs
3. Learn about Your Abortion Options
There are two types of abortion procedures, medical (pill) and surgical. If you are less than 49 days along into your pregnancy, medical abortion (more commonly known as the abortion pill) is available to you. After 49 days, surgical abortion options are suction and curettage (S&C) or dilation and evacuation (D&E). In S&C abortions, a suction machine and a curette (thin, loop-shaped knife) are used to remove the fetus from your uterus. For D&E abortions, the same tools are used in conjunction with forceps, as this procedure is typically only performed on women with advanced pregnancies.
