Can I get treated for STIs through TruCare?

Yes! If your STI testing comes back positive, we can prescribe you medication to treat it.

If I am considering abortion, do I need to get tested for STIs?

Yes, it’s important to get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) before an abortion. STIs can be asymptomatic, so testing is the only way to know if you’re infected. If left untreated, STIs can cause long-term health problems.

WHY GET TESTED?

Protect your health: STIs can spread to other organs during an abortion.

Avoid complications: Some STIs can increase the risk of post-abortion infection,
pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancies, or infertility.

Ensure safety: Having an abortion while infected with an STI can cause the infection to
spread to other parts of your body, potentially causing sepsis and septic shock.

Q: If my partner has an STI, does that mean I have one?

You should be tested for an STI if your partner has one. Not every sexual encounter results in transmission of an STI, but STIs, or sexually transmitted infections, are contagious and can be spread through sexual contact.

  • STIs can be passed through bodily fluids or skin-to-skin contact.
  • Some STIs can be passed during childbirth.
  • STIs don’t always cause symptoms, so you can’t tell if your partner has one by looking or asking.
  • STIs can take up to 7 weeks to show up on a test.
Q: If I am pregnant and have an STI, is that dangerous for the baby?

Yes, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be dangerous for the baby if you have one while pregnant. STIs can cause serious health problems for the baby, including stillbirth, premature birth, and brain damage.

        How to protect the baby

        • Get tested for STIs as soon as you find out you’re pregnant
        • Get treated for STIs as soon as possible
        • Tell your healthcare provider about your STI diagnosis
